Terms of service
Last updated 11 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Kartoffel, the German course at this website, run by the team behind Kartoffel. By using Kartoffel you agree to them. Questions: hallo@kartoffel.app.
The course
Kartoffel teaches German from A1 to C1 with classes, exercises, texts, audio, an AI tutor and practice exams. Free use has daily limits, described on the pricing page. We keep improving the course, so features and limits may change; we won't take away what a paid plan includes during a period you have paid for.
Your account
You can learn without an account. If you create one (with Google or an email link), keep access to your email account safe: whoever can read it can sign in. You can delete your account at any time in your profile.
AI features
The tutor, conversation partner and writing and speaking feedback are produced by AI. They are usually right and sometimes wrong. Check anything important, such as an official form or an exam rule, with a reliable source. Please use the AI features for learning German only, and don't try to make them produce harmful or illegal content.
Exams
The practice exams follow the publicly described formats of the Goethe-Institut, telc and ÖSD exams, but all texts and tasks are our own. Kartoffel is not affiliated with or endorsed by those institutions, and a readiness score is an estimate, not a guarantee of passing.
Pro and Agency subscriptions
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
Subscriptions renew automatically each month or year at the price shown when you bought them, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time under Profile › Manage billing; you keep your plan until the end of the period you have paid for. Prices include VAT where it applies. Refunds are described in our refund policy.
Fair use
Don't misuse Kartoffel: no attempts to break or overload it, no sharing of one paid account between several people, and no copying of the course content to publish it elsewhere. We may suspend accounts that do, and we'll tell you why.
Our content
The course texts, exercises, audio, design and software belong to us or our licensors. What you write and say in Kartoffel stays yours; you let us process it to run the course for you.
Liability
We work to keep Kartoffel available and correct, but we provide it as it is and can't promise it will always be free of errors or interruptions. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country you live in, or our liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited.
Changes
If we change these terms, we update the date at the top and tell you in the app before important changes take effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
